Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides coverage to eligible children whose parents earn too much income to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to pay for private coverage. It is best to check state guidelines to ensure eligibility.

Medicare is a government-funded insurance that provides healthcare coverage to individuals 65 years of age or older. People under 65 years of age may be eligible due to certain disabilities. Open enrollment for Medicare is from October 15 through December 7 each year. During this period, you can choose Original Medicare or add Medigap and choose or change a Part C or Part D plan.

There are four parts of Medicare:

  • Medicare Part A is used for inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility stays, hospice care, and home health care
  • Medicare Part B is used for outpatient care and medical coverage including, but not limited to, doctor visits, lab tests, diagnostic services, and durable medical equipment
  • Medicare Part C is private health insurance that is an alternative to Original Medicare
  • Medicare Part D is the prescription drug plan for Medicare recipients
    • Extra Help, or Low-Income Subsidy, is a program to help limited income individuals pay for prescription drug and program costs
    • Limited Income NET (LINET) program provides temporary prescription drug coverage for low-income Medicare beneficiaries who have not yet enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan
  • Medigap is private healthcare coverage offered by insurance companies to supplement Original Medicare.

What is commercial or private insurance?

Commercial or private insurance plans may be purchased directly from an insurance carrier, insurance broker, Healthcare.gov, or through an employer group. Once a year, during the designated open enrollment period, you may enroll in commercial or private insurance. You may be eligible for special enrollment if you have experienced a qualifying life event, examples include: recently becoming a citizen, moving to a new area, marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, or losing your insurance coverage.

How do I know what my coverage is?

Contact ASSIST via phone at 877-864-8437, via email by selecting the email option, or complete the Patient Authorization Form and forward to ASSIST. An ASSIST Specialist will be in contact to help navigate topics such as insurance coverage, prior authorization requirements, and in-network pharmacies.

What are TYVASO and TYVASO DPI?

TYVASO (treprostinil) Inhalation Solution and TYVASO DPI (treprostinil) Inhalation Powder are prescription medicines used in adults to treat:

  • Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; WHO Group 1), which is high blood pressure in the arteries of your lungs. TYVASO or TYVASO DPI can improve the ability to exercise. Your ability to exercise decreases 4 hours after taking TYVASO or TYVASO DPI. It is not known if TYVASO or TYVASO DPI is safe and effective in children under 18 years of age.
  • Pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD; WHO Group 3), which is high blood pressure in the lungs due to inflammation and sometimes scarring in the lungs. TYVASO or TYVASO DPI can improve the ability to exercise.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Before you take TYVASO or TYVASO DPI, tell your healthcare provider about all of your medical conditions, including if you:

  • Have low blood pressure
  • Have or have had bleeding problems
  • Have asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  •  Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if either product will harm your unborn baby.
  • Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if either product passes into your breast milk. Talk to your healthcare provider about the best way to feed your baby during treatment.

Tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Either product and other medicines may affect each other.

Especially tell your healthcare provider if you take:

  • Medicines used to treat high blood pressure or heart disease
  • Medicines that decrease blood clotting (anticoagulants)
  • Water pills (diuretics)
  • Gemfibrozil (Lopid®) or rifampin (Rimactane®, Rifadin®, Rifamate®, Rifater®)

What are the possible side effects of TYVASO or TYVASO DPI?

Both products can cause serious side effects, including:

  • Low blood pressure (symptomatic hypotension).If you have low blood pressure, either product may lower your blood pressure more.
  • Bleeding problems. Either product may increase the risk of bleeding, especially in people who take blood thinners (anticoagulants).

The most common side effects of both products are cough, headache, throat irritation and pain, nausea, reddening of the face and neck (flushing), fainting or loss of consciousness, dizziness, diarrhea, and shortness of breath. Like other inhaled prostaglandins, you may have trouble breathing after taking TYVASO or TYVASO DPI because it may cause the muscles around your airway to tighten (bronchospasm). These are not all the possible side effects. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects or if you have trouble breathing.
